Elizabeth Lennox

Author Interview – The Hart Sisters Trilogy

What motivated the stories or characters in The Hart Sisters Trilogy?
I was chatting with a reader on Facebook and I discovered that she was one of a set of triplets.  The whole idea of three people being that close fascinated me.  From there, the series concept evolved into a cooking/catering business (thanks to readers who offered help here as well!) and the personalities of the women developed.  It was a very different idea and I loved the challenge of it all.
Do you have a favorite of the triplets?
I can’t say that I have a favorite – probably whichever one I was writing at the time.  It is sort of like when someone asks me which story I like the most – I begin thinking of one book I’ve written, then jump to another one and then another.  So no, I don’t really have a favorite sister – but there are aspects of each character that I admire.

The cover and description of book 3 depicts a very different setting – can you tell us more about the inspiration for the Caribbean backdrop for the story?
We absolutely love traveling.  It is sort of our family “thing”.  It could be just a day trip to some historical place in Virginia or to an exotic island.  In this case, we spent some time on the Dominican Republic over New Years and I was just entranced by the different parts of this island.  The waterfalls especially.  Those show up in another book as well (coming out this summer!).
Do you like to cook as much as the Hart Sisters?
No!  That’s one of the things I put into the stories because I would LOVE to love to cook.  I sometimes enjoy it, but cooking is exhausting!  And it takes time away from writing or reading – both of which I do way too much!  So no, I don’t like to cook – partly because it would require me going to the grocery store and that is one chore that I truly hate to do.  I will clean toilets as long as I can get out of going to the grocery store!  Thankfully, my husband does the majority of the shopping.  And when I do go, I put on headphones and dance around the store.  Sometimes it can be embarrassing.  There was one time I had Nickelback cranked up and a neighbor came up behind me and tapped me on my shoulder.  I jumped and spun around and, because of that, she jumped!  We both stood staring at each other for a moment with our mouths hanging open until I could apologize, and we both laughed.  🙂
